Employed Persons in the United States

This statistic shows the unadjusted number of employees in the United States. Employed persons consist of: persons who did any work for pay or profit during the survey reference week; persons who did at least 15 hours of unpaid work in a family-operated enterprise; and persons who were temporarily absent from their regular jobs because of illness, vacation, bad weather, industrial dispute, or various personal reasons. In December 2013, about 144.4 million persons were employed.

The unemployment rate declined from 7.0 percent to 6.7 percent in December, the total non-farm payrolls came at 74.000, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Consensus was for 7.0% and 200.000 respectively.  The nonfarm payrolls came as a big surprise considering the drop of the unemployment rate. Perhaps the effects of the government shutdown are starting to weight.

Ben Bernanke on Unemployement

At the press conference he gave his final remarks on unemployment and inflation. ConsulTree follows the unemployment situation closely.
